Introduction
The Cisco Collaboration Server Application Sharing (AppShare) feature allows customers and agents to share any Microsoft Windows application that runs on either the customer or agent desktop. The only requirement for AppShare is an appropriate Java-enabled browser. AppShare is performed entirely over HTTP. Only one person in the collaboration session needs to run the application in order to share with others. This document describes the possibility of a reduction in the color resolution of AppShare in order to decrease the traffic volume among local or remote AppShare sessions.
Refer to Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.
Q. Is it possible for the agent of a Collaboration Server AppShare plug-in to adjust the color resolution?
A. No, there is not an option to adjust the screen resolution or color settings in the agent AppShare plug-in. For best performance, you can adjust the screen resolution on either the agent or the customer desktop. You can adjust two parameters in order to meet the traffic requirement:
- The number of colors
- The number of pixels (resolution)
More colors and pixels mean more traffic. Complete these steps:
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings. Figure 1 shows this step. Figure 1: Display Properties

- Move the slide bar in the Screen area in order to adjust the pixels.
- Click the drop-down arrow in the Colors field in order to select the number of colors.
