Setting Up the Cisco IP Telephony Directory

Before setting up the Cisco IP Telephony Directory and administrator, complete the following tasks on Cisco CallManager:

The Cisco CRA system stores configuration information in a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) directory called the IP telephony directory. You can use the Cisco CallManager Data Connection (DC) directory as your IP telephony directory, or you can use an existing directory in your system (such as Netscape Directory or Microsoft Active Directory).

Configuring the directory server is typically a one-time process that you will never need to repeat, except in rare cases such as when you change the configuration or re-initialize a profile.

You can configure multiple directory servers, in order of priority, to be used if a failover occurs. Each of these directory servers stores Cisco CRA configuration data and scripts. If a failover occurs, the CRA server will attempt to use the first alternative directory server that you have configured, then the second server, and so on.

Note   Each directory server must be in the same cluster for this failover to work.

The IP telephony directory contains a subdirectory that stores applications and Cisco scripts. This subdirectory is called the repository.

The CRA server can receive directory information from one IP telephony directory and application configuration and script logic from a repository on another server.

For efficient management of resources, the IP telephony directory server stores each type of configuration as a profile.

The CRA system uses two kinds of profiles:

  • Configuration profile—Stores all the configuration for a specific CRA server, such as groups, triggers, and subsystems. A configuration profile can be used by only one CRA server at a time.
  • Repository profile—Stores information common to multiple CRA servers, such as scripts and application configuration. A repository profile can be shared by multiple CRA servers.

Configuring the IP telephony directory server involves the following tasks:

1. Connect to the Cisco CRA Administration Web interface for the first time.

2. Set up the IP telephony directory.

3. Configure CRA administrators.

This chapter includes the following procedures:

Connecting to the Cisco CRA Administration Web Interface for the First Time

The CRA Administration web interface provides access to web pages that allow you to configure and administer the CRA system.

To connect to the CRA Administration web interface for the first time, complete the following steps.

Procedure

Step 1   Open the CRA Administration Authentication page by performing one of the following actions:

  • From the server running Cisco CRA, choose Start > Programs > Cisco CRA Administrator > Application Administrator.
  • From a web browser on any computer on your network, enter the following URL:

http://servername/AppAdmin

In this example, servername is the host name or IP address of your Cisco CRA server.

Step 2   Enter Administrator in the User Identification field, enter ciscocisco in the Password field, and then click Log On.

Use the specified login name and password during the first-time set-up process only. When you configure the Cisco IP telephony directory, you create a login name and password to use for future access to the CRA Administration web interface.

You are now ready to configure the IP telephony directory.

Setting up the IP Telephony Directory

Once you have logged into CRA Administration, you set up the IP telephony directory server.

You can use the Cisco CallManager DC directory as your IP telephony directory, or you can use an existing directory in your system (such as Netscape Directory or Microsoft Active Directory). See Cisco Customer Response Applications Getting Started Guide for sample values for configuring Netscape and Microsoft Active Directories.

Note   When you set up the IP telephony directory server, you set up repository and configuration profiles. If you change the profiles after initial setup, you must restart the CRA Engine.

To set up the IP Telephony Directory, complete the following steps.

Procedure

Step 1   After you have logged into CRA Administration for the first time, click Setup.

The Directory Setup web page opens, displaying the Configuration Setup—Step 1 of 6 area.

Step 2   From the Server Type drop-down menu, choose the type of LDAP directory you want to use—MS Active Directory, Netscape Directory Server 4.0, DC Directory, or Other.

The default information in the Directory User, Base Context, and User Base fields will differ according to the type of directory you choose.

Step 3   In the Directory Host Name field, enter the host name or IP address of the Cisco IP Telephony Directory server where the configuration profile resides or will reside with the CRA Engine profile. The information entered in this field should be consistent with the information entered in the CTI Manager A area on the CTI Manager Locations pane during CRA installation.

To specify multiple directory servers in the event of a failover, after you enter the primary host name or IP address, enter the host names or IP addresses of the alternative directory servers in the order that they should be used if a failover occurs. Separate each host name or IP address in the Directory Host Name field with a semicolon (;), a comma (,), or a space. The information entered in this field should be consistent with the information entered in the CTI Manager B area on the CTI Manager Locations pane during CRA installation.

Step 4   In the Directory Port Number field, enter the port number of the Cisco IP telephony directory.

The default is 8480.

Step 5   In the Directory User (DN) field, enter the username (called the distinguished name) configured on the directory server for the user with permission to modify the Cisco IP Telephony tree and object entries, or accept the default information.

Step 6   In the Directory Password field, enter a password for the directory user.

Step 7   In the Base Context field, enter the branch of the Cisco IP Telephony Directory tree that contains the Cisco configuration information, or accept the default information.

Step 8   In the User Base field, enter the branch of the Cisco IP Telephony Directory tree that contains user information, or accept the default information.

Step 9   Click Next.

The Configuration Setup—Step 2 of 6 area of the Directory Setup web page opens.

Step 10   In the Profile Name field, perform one of the following tasks:

  • From the drop-down menu, choose the profile name that identifies this CRA server configuration or repository. The User Profile dialog box opens.
  • Click Edit. The User Profile dialog box opens.

Step 11   Enter a new profile name, and then click OK.

The User Profile dialog box closes, and the new name opens in the Profile Name field of the Configuration Setup—Step 2 of 6 area of the Directory Setup web page.

If the profile you are using is a Cisco CRA 2.x profile, use the Cisco CRA conversion tool to convert it into a Cisco CRA 3.1 profile. For more information, see Getting Started with Cisco Customer Response Applications.

Step 12   Click Next.

The Configuration Setup—Step 3 of 6 area of the Directory Setup web page opens.

Step 13   Perform one of the following tasks:

  • To create the repository profile on the same server as your configuration profile, accept the default setting (Use the Default Repository Profile).
  • To maintain separate profiles for your configuration and repository, click the Use a Different Repository Profile radio button.

The Repository Configuration dialog box opens.

Complete the fields with configuration information appropriate for your repository directory, and then click OK.

The Repository Configuration dialog box closes.

Step 14   Click Next.

The User Maintenance web page opens.

Step 15   If you want to find a specific Cisco CallManager user, enter search criteria (such as a user name) in the Enter Search Criteria text field and click Search.

If more than 75 users are configured on Cisco CallManager, you can search for users who are not displayed.

Step 16   From the CMUsers list box, select one or more Cisco CallManager users, and then click < to move the selected users to the CRA Administrator/Supervisor list box.

Step 17   For each user moved to the CRA Administrator/Supervisor list box, select a user in the list box and choose either Administrator or Supervisor from the Group drop-down menu.

Because only an administrator can update the CRA system, you must select at least one user to become an administrator.

Step 18   Click Finish to complete the process and initialize configuration and repository profiles.

The Directory Setup web page displays your configuration choices.

You are now ready to use the Cisco CRA Administration web interface to administer your CRA system.
