Introduction

This document describes the procedure to reboot the Logger in a Cisco Intelligent Management (ICM) environment.

Q. What is the procedure to reboot the Logger?

A. The Logger, also known as the database server, is part of the Central Controller. The other part of the Central Controller is the CallRouter. Since the Central Controller is always duplexed, there are two Loggers, LoggerA and LoggerB.

When LoggerA or LoggerB is rebooted, there is no need to perform a manual database synchorization between LoggerA and LoggerB. A manual synchorization is required when one of the Loggers is too far behind for a recovery to take place. It can be achieved with the Synchronize function of the ICMDBA tool.

When the ICMDBA is run to synchronize the database, contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for assistance.

The procedure to reboot LoggerA and LoggerB follows:

  1. From the LoggerA computer Desktop, click ICM Service Control. The ICM Service Control window appears, as shown in Figure 1.

  2. Since there is only one service, click Stop All to stop the Logger service, Figure 2. You may also click the Logger service and the ICM Service Control window refreshes. Figure 2: ICM Service Control - Selected the Service

Note: If there is more than one service listed, you may select just the Logger service.

  3. Click Stop to shutdown the Logger service.
  4. Reboot the LoggerA computer.

Note: The Logger service does not start automatically, if the service is set to Manual (like the example). It should be set to Automatic.

  5. After reboot, check the lgr process for synchronization complete messages as shown in this message (see bold section).
    la-lgr Trace: Synchronizing Configuration Data
la-lgr Trace: LastUpdateKey for B Configuration is 213085239004.0
la-lgr Trace: LastUpdateKey for A Configuration is 213085239004.0
la-lgr The Logger has completed Database Synchronization,
0 Config Message Log Entries Received and Added.

Note: The above code is displayed over multiple lines due to space limitations.

  6. Repeat the same steps for LoggerB.

Note: If any configuration change is made while the Logger service is offline, then the LGR process starts and restarts once for the configuration change. It is strongly recommended that you stop all ICM configuration changes while one Logger is rebooted or when the Logger service is restarted.
