Prerequisites

Requirements

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on the software version:

  • CDN version 2.0

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

For more information on document conventions, see the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions.

Registering the CDN Devices

Before attempting to activate your CDN or any of your devices, you first need to register your CDN devices. Registration provides your devices with the settings and boot information necessary to communicate with each other. When you register your CDN devices, you need to have the following specific information concerning your CDN hardware and the configuration of your LAN to provide to the Cisco technical support representative.

Required Configuration Information

The following is a list of the information you need to present to the technical support representative for each device on your CDN:

  • MAC address - The Ethernet address of the device. This address is located on a label affixed to each device.

  • Serial number - The unique identifying number for the hardware device. This number is located on a label affixed to each device.

  • IP address - Internet Protocol address-unique numeric address assigned to the computer.

  • Subnet mask - The IP address for the subnet on which the device is located.

  • Gateway address - IP address of a gateway device (or router) on the network.

  • Domain name - The network name assigned to the group of computers to which the device will be joined.

  • Proxy information (if applicable) - The IP address and port number of the proxy server used to access the Internet using secure HTTP protocol.

To minimally register, you need to provide at least the following:

  • Company name.

  • Contact name.

  • E-mail address of contact.

  • Phone number of contact.

  • MAC address and serial number of Content Distribution Manager (CDM).

  • MAC address and serial number of each Content Engine (COE) in the CDN.

If you are registering a CDM, you also need to answer the following:

  • Is the CDM statically or dynamically configured?

  • Does the CDM have to go through a proxy server to reach the registry?

If the CDM is going to be statically configured, you need to answer the following:

  • What is the IP address?

  • What is the subnet mask?

  • What is the domain name?

  • What is the gateway/router?

If the CDM has to go through a proxy server, answer the following:

  • What is the proxy server IP address?

  • What is the proxy port?

  • Are there any proxy exceptions that need to be considered?
