Introduction
This message can display when LAN²LAN is run in the high memory windows, such as 0D80000, 0E00000, 0E80000 and 0F00000, on an IBM PS/2 80 A16, A31, Axx machine.

There are no specific requirements for this document.
Components Used
This document is not restricted to specific software and hardware versions.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Conventions
Refer to Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.
Symptom
When LAN²LAN is loaded this message appears and the load aborts:
LAN²LAN Quicklook Diagnostic Failure - Memory
Reason
If you use high memory windows above 1 Mb when the system contains more than 4 Mb of memory, it causes the quicklook memory test to fail. This is due to the handling of the WNIC/MCA as cache memory.
Solution
The IBM cache controller must be told about the presence of the WNIC/MCA in high memory in those systems with 8-12 Mb of physical memory and a need to load the LAN²LAN driver in high memory, for example C0000 and D0000 are not available in low memory. A new ADF file is available that defines these address conventions:
Port addresses: 258, 268, 298, 2D8, 358, 398, 3E8 as before, but must be used with memory addresses C0000/D0000. Port addresses 19E8 and 5698 - memory 0D80000 Port addresses 8958 and ADD8 - memory 0E00000 Port addresses BA98 and D068 - memory 0E80000 Port address F428 - memory 0F00000
This disables caching in the 8-16 Mb area, but leaves caching on in the 0-8 Mb area.
