LAN2LAN Coexistence with the ARCNET LAN Adapter

When you configure an ARCNET LAN adapter which is to coexist with LAN²LAN, a potential for conflict exists. Normally the ARCNET LAN adapter is LAN A and several of the options, including option 0, for ARCNET specify interrupt 2. Interrupt 2 is available on an PC/XT, but on a PC/AT, this translates to interrupt 9.

NetWare does not exclude interrupt 9 after interrupt 2 has been used. If you then choose a LAN²LAN option which uses interrupt 9, both adapters use the same interrupt. This results in the last-configured adapter owning the interrupt, so the first configured adapter does not function correctly. In most cases the visible symptom is that the ARCNET adapter does not work.

When you configure a router which includes both an ARCNET LAN adapter and a LAN²LAN, remember that interrupts 2 and 9 are the same and select options that do not conflict.
