Introduction

LAN²LAN Technical Bulletin #47

Follow these guidelines when you configure the LAN²LAN Call Connection Manager (CCM) Dial-on-Activity feature.

Note: In order to use Dial-on-Activity, the DCE (modem, ISDN TA, Switched 56 DSU) must support V.25 bis, and both connecting routers must have outbound Call Control Records (CCRs) configured.

Conventions

Refer to Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.

LAN²LAN, Dedicated

Configuring IPX and Dial-on-Activity

Follow the instructions in the "Quick Start Tutorial" chapter of the Call Connection Manager Supplement. When the connecting router is LAN²LAN, dedicated, configure the outbound CCR with IPX enabled; you can optionally configure a network address. When the connecting router is LAN²LAN for NetWare platforms, configure the outbound CCR with IPX enabled; you must also configure an IPX network address. The LAN²LAN suppresses (spoofs) IPX network broadcasts when IPX networks addresses are configured and when they are not entered.

Configuring TCP/IP and Dial-on-Activity

Follow the instructions in the "Quick Start Tutorial" chapter of the Call Connection Manager Supplement. When you configure the outbound CCR, you must have IP enabled and IP Protocol set to RIP, and you must not have a network address configured. If the network addresses are configured, the LAN²LAN broadcasts over the line, which prevents the line from becoming suspended.

LAN²LAN for NetWare Platforms

Configuring IPX and Dial-on-Activity

Follow the instructions in the "Quick Start Tutorial" chapter of the Call Connection Manager Supplement. When the connecting router is LAN²LAN (either dedicated or for NetWare platforms), configure the outbound CCR with an IPX network address. When the connecting router is LAN²LAN, dedicated, that router must have an outbound CCR configured with IPX enabled, and it must have an IPX network address configured.

Configuring TCP/IP and Dial-on-Activity

In order to use TCP/IP and Dial-on-Activity, you must have Version 3.21a or later of LAN²LAN.

Follow the instructions in the "Quick Start Tutorial" chapter of the Call Connection Manager Supplement. In order to use Dial-on-Activity for TCP/IP on NetWare platforms, static routing must be configured on the NetWare platform. Follow the instructions in your NetWare documentation to configure static routes. In order to use the Dial-on-Activity feature when the connecting router is LAN²LAN, dedicated, static routing must also be configured on the LAN²LAN, dedicated. Follow the instructions in the LAN²LAN User Guide to configure static routes.
