Background Information

Symptoms: N/A

Resolution: Cisco Unified Call Services, Universal Edition, and Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, rely on dates passed by a Java VM; as long as Java passes the correct date, the software of Cisco Unified Call Services, Universal Edition, and Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, is not affected.

The change to Daylight Savings Time in 2007 does not have any impact on Cisco Unified Call Services, Universal Edition, or Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition. The software continues to operate without issue, regardless of when the actual DST change occurs.

Note that, as with every time change, log timestamps are affected, for example, the creation of negative values for call duration in the Fall and the addition of an hour in the Spring. This issue occurs within any time change and is not related to the DST shift in March 2007.

The other part of the software that is related to Cisco Unified Call Services, Universal Edition, and Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, that is date-based is licensing, but it is interested in a date, not a time. Since the licenses expire on a given day, the DST change does not affect the expiration date.

Common Questions

How can we make sure that Java is patched properly? Is it simply to run the JDK US DST Timezone Update Tool - 1.0, provided by Sun Microsystems?

Refer to the website (either Sun or IBM dependent upon your platform) of your Java vendor for patch information related to how to avoid issues with the DST change. Once Java is patched, Cisco Unified Call Services, Universal Edition, and Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, inherit those updates.
