Introduction

When you install Cisco Aironet client drivers from the CD, you can mistakenly install Windows98 drivers on Windows95 platforms. If this situation arises, you need to update the drivers every time you boot your PC.

Requirements

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on all Cisco Aironet client driver versions distributed on CD.

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Problem

Before you install the Cisco Aironet Client Adapter card in your PC, extract the Win95 drivers from the CD (x:/win95) to another location, for example, a floppy drive, a temporary directory, or your Windows Desktop.

Note: You can experience problems if you install the card and allow the Win98 drivers to install from the CD.

These problems can occur:

  • The card does not function.

  • You cannot update the drivers to the Win95 drivers.

If you remove the card from the Device Manager and attempt a reinstallation, you only reinstall the 98 drivers on the next insertion even if you point the drivers to the correct location.

Solution

Complete these steps to correct the problem:

  1. Remove the card from Network Properties and from Device Manager.

  2. Restart the PC.

  3. When you restart the PC, identify the location of the drivers. Point to the location where you extracted the Win95 drivers. The driver installation then proceeds correctly.

Note: Due to the way Windows95 works, you will experience greater success when you extract the drivers to a subdirectory rather than a root directory. For example, extract the drivers to a:\win95 and not to a:\, or extract the drivers to c:\temp rather than to c:\.
