Procedure
This document provides a procedure for how to upgrade the firmware on a Cisco VN5900 using the Video Networking (VN) Unit Manager. Complete these steps:
-
Acquire the new firmware images from the vn-Support website. The files on these support pages have the following naming convention: MODEL_MM.mm.bbbb (model name_major version.minor version.build number). For example, PS5050_2.00.0015.ebf.
-
Start the VN5900 system.
-
Launch the VN Unit Manager and connect it to the chassis. Based upon your version of firmware and hardware, the default username/password sequence is either vx/pixstream or vn/ciscosys.
-
When the VN Unit Manager has completed the connection to the chassis, click the Status button. This displays a list of all installed cards, firmware versions, and serial numbers.
-
Select the desired card to be upgraded, and click the Upgrade button. If this button is not visible, maximize the VN Unit Manager window.
-
Select the version of firmware to be loaded to the card in the pop-up window, and then click OK.
-
When the upgrade is complete, you must reset the card in order for the new image to become active. The VN Unit Manager prompts you to reset the card.
-
The Flash memory contains a copy of both the current code and old code. Once you reboot the system, the new (FTP) code becomes active. If the upgrade was not successful, the original code remains active. In this case, repeat the upgrade process.
