This document describes the features and caveats for Cisco functional image, fi-c8540-epam.A.3-3, for the 10/100BaseT and 100BaseFX interface modules used with the Catalyst 8540 CSR.
This version of functional image fixes the DDTS listed in the section "Caveats" later in this release note.

Introduction
The Catalyst 8540 CSR provides Layer 3 switching to a class of high-performance routers optimized for the campus LAN or intranet, providing both wirespeed Ethernet routing and switching services.
A Layer 3 switch router performs the following three major functions:
- Packet switching
- Route processing
- Intelligent network services
Compared to other routers, Layer 3 switch routers process more packets faster by using application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) hardware instead of microprocessor-based engines. Layer 3 switch routers also improve network performance with two software functionsroute processing and intelligent network services.
Determining Your 10/100BaseT or 100BaseFX Interface Module Functional Image Release
This section describes the process you use to determine the existing functional image version installed on your 10/100BaseT and 100BaseFX interface modules.
To display the functional image version in a 10/100BaseT and 100BaseFX interface modules, use the following command in privileged EXEC mode:

The following example shows the firmware functional image information in the controller for the 10/100BaseT interface module in subslot 4/0:

Caution Functional image reprogramming can not be reverted back once the procedure is started. Do not interrupt the procedure. Wait until it has finished before attempting any commands on the switch. A failure during reprogramming can result in the card being unusable. |
Caveats
This section contains listings of the caveats for this 10/100BaseT and 100BaseFX interface module firmware functional image.
Use the table to determine if a particular caveat applies to your firmware functional image release, or if a particular caveat was corrected in your firmware image release. These caveats are described in detail in the following section "Open Caveats."

Open Caveats
This section describes the open caveats for this functional image:
- CSCdp15945
- Symptom: If a Fast Ethernet interface module is installed on an active switch, cells become stuck in the switch fabric when a second route processor module is inserted into the chassis
- Workaround: Upgrade to functional image fi-c8540-epam.A.3-3.

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners.
