Cisco 7300 Series Internet Router Overview

Overview

Cisco 7300 Series
Internet Router

Overview

Developed for customers needing a combination of performance and deployment flexibility, the Cisco 7300 is the embodiment of both present day and future requirements for a Mid-Range router. The Cisco 7300 delivers high-performance forwarding and Cisco PXF hardware-accelerated services in a compact four rack-unit (4RU), four interface slot form factor.

Powerful and flexible, the Cisco 7300 provides multiprotocol support, interface granularity, and high-availability features to create a platform that is ideal for deployment in various applications such as high-end enterprise routing, medium-speed and density leased-line aggregation in service provider tier 2 and tier 3 PoPs, and service provider-managed customer premise equipment (CPE) deployments. Providing

WAN connectivity at speeds ranging from DS3 through OC48/STM-16 and LAN connectivity at speeds up to Gigabit Ethernet (via two 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports built into the NSE-100 route processor), the Cisco 7300 supports a wide range of concurrently running applications and lives up to the high standards of Cisco's 7x00 series of Mid-range routers. Table 1 provides features and benefits of the Cisco 7300.

Cisco 7300 Service Enables the Optical Edge

The Cisco 7300 platform is positioned at the network edge where the enterprise meets the service provider. The Cisco 7300 is ideal as a high-end enterprise device, medium-speed and density leased-line aggregation router in service provider tier 2 and tier 3 PoPs, or service provider-managed CPE with its compact form factor (four RU), modular design (four slots), scalable performance (DS-3 to OC-48), and rich IP services.

It has PXF-accelerated turbo Access Control Lists (ACLs) for granular security and PXF NetFlow Version 8 for accounting and billing applications. Its Low Latency Queuing feature enables effective management of a converged multiservice (voice, video, and data) network and the Packet Classification and Marking feature enables different treatment for various traffic types. Please see Figure 2 for examples of network application of the Cisco 7300.
