Part Number Change for
OC48E/POS-SR-SC/FC(=)
OC48E/POS-1550-SC/FC(=)The OC-48/STM-16 Packet-over-SONET/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (POS/SDH) interface module for the Cisco 12000 Series Internet Router, shipping for over a year, provides a unique combination of performance and class-of-service (CoS) features for delivering advanced end-to-end networking features.
The existing part numbers for the OC-48/STM-16 POS interface module are changing.
The following OC-48/STM-16 part numbers:
•
OC48E/POS-SR-SC(=)
•
OC48E/POS-SR-FC(=)
•
OC48E/POS-1550-FC(=)
•
OC48E/POS-1550-SC(=)
will be superceded on December 27, 2000, by the following OC-48/STM-16 part numbers:
•
OC48E/POS-SR-SC-B(=)
•
OC48E/POS-SR-FC-B(=)
•
OC48E/POS-LR-FC-B(=)
•
OC48E/POS-LR-SC-B(=)
The part number change is due to design optimizations on the current interface card. These optimizations have led to the need for a new version of Cisco IOSĀ® Software (12.0(10)S or better and 11.2(19)GS5 or better).
The new B parts will not change any functionality or performance in the OC-48/STM-16 interface module. Both the existing version of OC-48/STM-16 and the new "B" version of OC-48/STM-16 interfaces are the same in form fit and function when running with Cisco IOS image 12.0(10)S or higher or IOS image 11.2(19)GS5 or higher.
Cisco strongly recommends that all existing OC-48 orders that have not been shipped be converted to reflect the new B part number.
A summary of the Cisco IOS version requirements on the POS interface card follows:
Cisco IOS 12.XX Cisco IOS 11.XX OC-48E/POS—non-B Version12.0(6)S or greater
11.2(18)GS2 or greater
OC-48E/POS—B Version12.0(10)S or greater
11.2(19)GS5 or greater
NOTE: Both the original OC48 (non-B) and the new OC48 (B version) have ECC.
The new OC-48 (B) versions will have the same prices as the existing OC-48 (non-B) versions.

Orderability
The non-B parts will be orderable for up to three weeks beginning on December 27, 2000. Thereafter, the non-B parts will be orderable only as spares. Full orderability will be shut down on April 2, 2001.All last-time-buy orders by customers must be received on or before this date.
