The Cisco ONS 15200
Metro Dense Wavelength
Division Multiplexing Solution
The Cisco ONS 15200 is the first wavelength to the building metro Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) solution, supercharging wavelength services with unprecedented transport flexibility to achieve radical economics for service providers. The Cisco ONS 15200 delivers instant wavelengths to the customer premises, interoperates seamlessly with the industry leading Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15327 Metro Optical Transport Platforms, and offers the highest service density and lowest cost per wavelength. The Cisco ONS 15200 drops channels in single wavelength increments, aggregates wavelength and subwavelength services, and supports metro and regional metro ring, star, and point-to-point topologies.
The Cisco ONS 15200 Metro DWDM Solution includes the ONS 15252, 15201, and 15216 platforms. The Cisco ONS 15252 is a multichannel unit and the ONS 15201 is a single channel unit that combine to deliver wavelength services such as Gigabit Ethernet and OC-48 Packet Over SONET (POS) in a 1-rack unit platform. The Cisco ONS 15216 platform provides optical filtering to combine wavelengths launched by the Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15327, optical add-drop multiplexing (OADM) to exchange wavelengths on SONET/synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) spans between the 15252 and 15201, the 15454, and 15327, optical performance monitoring (OPM), and amplification to reach up to 400 km.
Figure 1: Supercharged Wavelength Services
The Cisco ONS 15200 products supercharge metro and regional DWDM networks by making it possible for service providers to deploy wavelengths on demand to customer premises, service points of presence (PoPs) and buildings. The solution is highly scalable with virtually unlimited capacity expansion, and can accept and exchange both wavelengths and SONET/SDH channels with leading Cisco ONS 15454 and 15327 Metro Optical Transport Platforms.
Cisco's ONS 15200 Metro DWDM Solution delivers wavelength and subwavelength services enabling service providers to extend their service offerings and meet customers' diverse service requirements with a single solution. The Cisco ONS 15200 series can be deployed in ring, star, and point-to-point topologies, features the industry's smallest footprint, offers easy channel-by-channel upgrades, and supports ring circumference up to four hundred kilometers.
The Cisco ONS 15200 enables service providers to maximize the services that can be transported on a single wavelength to increase profitability, and offers the lowest first costs and life costs to deliver the lowest overall service cost in the industry. The Cisco ONS 15200 requires as little as one unit of rack space, consumes just 8 watts per channel, and can be installed and turned up in hours to further reduce costs.
