OT Security (OTSEC)

The OT Security (OTSEC) Learning Path gives you practical, applied skills to bridge the IT/OT divide. Learn how to secure industrial networks, segment plant-floor cells, and protect critical control systems where physical safety and uptime come first without disrupting active operations.

This Learning Path prepares you for the 810-115 OTSEC v1.0 exam. If passed, you earn the Cisco OT Security Practitioner certification.

Ways to get this training

Cisco U. Learning Path

Follow a guided Learning Path designed for your certification success. Pre- and post-assessments help you skip what you know and focus on what you need to learn.

How you'll benefit

This training will help you:

  • Bridge the IT/OT divide with practical OT security skills
  • Secure industrial networks and critical control systems without disrupting operations
  • Segment plant-floor cells to improve safety, uptime, and resilience
  • Build a foundation in OT security fundamentals and industrial network architecture
  • Understand key industrial protocols and standards, including the Purdue Model

Learning tracks

  • OT Security Fundamentals & Architecture: Cover the critical intersection of IT and OT security. You’ll build a solid foundation in industrial network design, master key protocols and standards (like the Purdue Model), and develop the skills to defend IIoT environments against modern cyber threats. Through hands-on practice with Cisco Packet Tracer and Kali Linux, you will learn how to analyze vulnerabilities and apply essential compliance frameworks to keep industrial infrastructures secure and resilient.
  • Securing the Industrial Network Infrastructure: Focus on the practical, hands-on side of securing industrial networks. You will gain experience using the Cisco CLI to manage infrastructure, implement VLANs, and perform essential device hardening. Additionally, you’ll learn to configure integrated wireless solutions—ranging from wireless sensor networks to private 5G—to ensure your IT-OT connectivity is both resilient and secure.
  • Industrial Authentication & Access Control: Secure the "front door" of your industrial network. You’ll learn how to implement robust local and remote access controls, including VPNs and AAA, to protect your infrastructure. We’ll also break down how application layer protocols drive communication in IIoT and industrial control systems, ensuring your connections are both efficient and secure.
  • OT Visibility, Risk, and Threat Detection: Shift your focus to advanced defense and proactive security. You’ll learn how to identify and mitigate ICS vulnerabilities, perform risk assessments, and utilize monitoring tools to maintain network visibility. We’ll also cover critical emerging trends like Zero Trust and network-as-a-sensor strategies, equipping you to stay ahead of an evolving threat landscape.
