ClusterMobility: Identical Office Phone Services Available Anywhere

Metreos™ ClusterMobility enables an organization to easily automate the ability for its mobile employees to move all the capabilities of their primary office phone to any other office phone in any of the organization's global offices, regardless of the Cisco CallManager cluster to which the primary and temporary phones are attached. Phone calls to an employee's corporate phone number reach the employee wherever he or she is temporarily located, and the employee has access to all the features of his or her office phone, such as voice mail, lines, phone services and speed dials.

ClusterMobility has been proven reliable and highly scalable by some of the world's largest IP communications customers, and is one of a number of industry-leading applications available from Metreos and compatible with the Metreos 2400 VoIP application environment.

Cisco Extension Mobility Taken to the Next Logical Level

The personal computer and the telephone are the centers of office productivity and communication. Computing mobility has been available to mobile workers for many years, but the office telephone has not offered comparable mobility. Cisco IP communications products, when combined with Metreos ClusterMobility, provide a solution to this challenge.

Cisco CallManager provides a feature known as Extension Mobility, which allows users of IP phones registered with CallManager to seamlessly move the appearance, features and capabilities of their desk phone to any Cisco IP phone within the same CallManager cluster. CallManager cannot, however, natively provide this service across CallManager clusters.

Metreos ClusterMobility overcomes this limitation, enabling mobile professionals to travel among an organization's global offices with seamless access to the features and benefits of their office phone. On arrival at a new location, the mobile worker simply logs into the IP phone at his temporary office quarters. Once logged in, all calls to his primary office phone are received at the new phone. Outgoing calls also behave as if made through his primary phone. The ClusterMobility application allows the mobile professional to retain his personal phone number, voice mail and other features of his primary office phone in any temporary office space he may occupy — spanning physical buildings, countries and CallManager clusters.
