Single Maintenance Window Procedures and Sequence
This phase includes upgrades of all the Cisco HCS Service Fulfillment and Service Assurance components. Cisco recommends that you complete this phase in one upgrade window. This topic describes the recommended sequence of tasks.
Alternatively, you can upgrade this phase over multiple maintenance windows. For more information, see Multiple Maintenance Windows Upgrade Sequence.
![]() Important |
A complete provisioning freeze is in effect during the upgrade maintenance window, but interruptions to Cisco HCS end-user Unified Communications application services are not expected. |
When you perform Phase 2 in one maintenance window, upgrade the components in the following order:
-
Install Prime Collaboration Assurance.
-
Upgrade Cisco Hosted Collaboration Mediation Fulfillment (HCM-F).
-
Upgrade Service Fulfillment and Service Assurance domain managers. You can upgrade or migrate these components in parallel.
-
Upgrade Cisco Unified Communications Domain Manager (Unified CDM) platform and software.
-
Upgrade Cisco Unified Contact Center Domain Manager (Unified CCDM).
-
![]() Note |
You can reduce the time it takes to upgrade Unified CDM by performing backup activities before the upgrade maintenance window. You can reduce the time for upgrade and backup by running node upgrades in parallel (a process that includes a backup) with the following CLI command: cluster upgrade media/platform-install-1.2.0-<version>.iso fast Another alternative is to use VMware snapshots for your backup, if reducing the length of time for the upgrade is a primary consideration. Consider the following when using VMware snapshots to back up Unified CDM:
For more information about the risks of using VMware snapshots, see the “Backup and Restore” chapter in the Cisco Hosted Collaboration Solution Maintain and Operate Guide. |
You are not required to complete data migration to Prime Collaboration Assurance during the single maintenance window.
Upgrade Management Components
This section lists the upgrade tasks for Management Components like Unified CDM, HCM-F, PCD, and PLM using Refresh or Standard upgrade.
Initiate Refresh or Standard upgrade depending on the upgrade method followed for upgrading the ESXi, VMware, and VMs.

Upgrade Overview
The following Cisco HCM-F upgrade paths are supported:
-
11.5(x) to 12.5(1) and later Service Update releases
-
10.6(x) to 12.5(1) and later Service Update releases
Before you begin to upgrade from 11.5(1) release to 11.5(4)SU1, it is mandatory to install the hcs.CSCvb86072-1-1151patch.cop file on HCMF.
Before you begin the upgrade process, obtain the appropriate upgrade file using one of the following methods:
-
Use the Product Upgrade Tool (PUT). To use the PUT, navigate to https://tools.cisco.com/gct/Upgrade/jsp/index.jsp. Enter your Cisco contract number (Smartnet, SASU or ESW) and request the DVD set.
-
Purchase the upgrade from Cisco Sales if you don't have a contract for Cisco HCS.
In general, perform the following tasks to upgrade Cisco HCM-F:
Resetting Cisco HCM-F Service Parameter Defaults After Upgrade
The Cisco HCM-F upgrade process automatically resets some service parameters to their default value. If you changed the default value for any of these service parameters before upgrading, use the following command to reset the value after upgrading:
set hcs <service-name> <service_parameter_name>
The following service parameters are affected:
-
Link auto-vm-linkage
-
Ucsmsync require-ucsm-certificate
-
Vcentersync require-vcenter-certificate

Migrating from Prime Collaboration Assurance 11.x and Later Versions
To migrate the existing data from Cisco Prime Collaboration Assurance 11.x to 12.1, you must use the Data Migration Assistant tool.
