Problem Description
A small number of GLC-SX-MM SFPs may have a latch issue due to which the SFPs could be removed from the SFP cage with very little force and therefore poses a risk of accidental removal from the cage during system operation.
Background
Tooling changes caused the latch dimension to not match the original specifications.
Problem Symptoms
Some of the GLC-SX-MM SFP units may not latch when inserted into the cage. These SFP units could be removed from the SFP cage with little to no force and without pulling down the bail. These units pose a risk of accidental removal from the cage during system operation.
Workaround/Solution
There is no workaround for this issue. Customers can use the Upgrade Program form provided below to request the replacement parts.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
This issue only affects the parts within the following Serial Number range:
From ICF1018xxxx to ICF1022xxxx
Following is a picture of a GLC-SX-MM label that shows the serial number of the product.

Customers can also use Command Line Interface (CLI) to find out the serial number of their GLC-SX-MM.
Command for CatOS Version 8.x for Cat4000 and Cat6000 Switches:
Switch (enable)show sprom {mod/port} | include Vendor SN
Command for CatOS Version other than 8.x for Cat4000 and Cat6000 Switches:
Switch (enable)show sprom {mod/port}
Command for IOS for Cat6500 Switch:
Switch#show idprom interface gigabitEthernet {mod/port} | include Vendor SN
