Problem Description
CSCef62420 describes an issue with the ML cards, where after a sequence of circuit creations and deletions, the ML card can get into a state where it might not bring down the POS ports even when there is a SONET defect present. When RPR is used, this has the potential to cause traffic outages. This defect is present in releases 4.6 through 4.6.3 and has been fixed in 4.6.4 and 5.x and later releases.
Background
This issue was discovered during testing of the ML series cards in environments incorporating the affected software revisions 4.6 through 4.6.3.
Problem Symptoms
Due to the issue described above, the ML-series RPR protection will fail. SONET/SDH failure will lead to a traffic outage. SONET failures are not reported on POS ports.
Workaround/Solution
After deleting the second circuit, change the admin state of the first circuit to OOS and then to IS. Allow a minimum of five seconds between the OOS to IS state change. This issue can be avoided by migrating to Release 4.6.4 or later. Release 6.2 is the recommended release for ML RPR deployments.
