Problem Description
Product built before October of 2003 had a misaligned electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield finger that sets atop of the bulkhead connector of the Transmit port of the card. When the fiber jumper is inserted into the card it does not properly lock in place and the customer could see an additional amount of loss at the connector.
Background
Cards were checked and the problems were found that the finger from the EMI shield was damaged during the installation process. It was determined that the finger from the side EMI shield was pushed in too far inside of the SC duplex adapter slot. As a result of this problem, the EMI finger interferes with the polarizing rib that is located on the side of SC patch cord.
Problem Symptoms
Operator has difficultly inserting patch cord in the SC adapter, and engagement click is not heard. Patch cord seems to slide in and out of adaptor with no engagement. Patch cord sometimes locks into the adapter and is hard to remove. Optical insertion loss for fiber link may be higher than anticipated.
Workaround/Solution
The EMI shield was redesigned in October of 2003, shortly after the implimentation of the added shield, and will no longer have the interference caused by the metal finger inside the adaptor shield.
All cards after this October revision already have the fix on the shield.
