Problem Description
CRC errors on G1000-4 cards when egress SONET payloads are greater than Gigabit Ethernet line rates (1.0 Gbps).
Background
With the introduction of the ML1000-2 card it is now possible to create SONET circuits with full utilization above Gigabit Ethernet line rate (the STS-24c has a 1.24 Gbps payload capacity). When such a payload is cross connected to the G1000-4 card for sustained periods, the G1000-4 card frame buffers fill up and can ultimately lead to CRC errors because of the limitation in the G1000-4 hardware.
Problem Symptoms
CRC errors experienced on Gigabit Ethernet client interfaces.
Workaround/Solution
Avoid using SONET traffic greater that 1 Gbps line rate or STS24c when using more than one circuit. There is no problem with the STS-24c circuits. The issue is caused by the limitation of this card. This has been fixed with an upgrade to the FPGA in the G1K-4 card.
