Problem Description
An unknown number of 15454 AIC boards have been inadvertently programmed with the Equipment Catalog Item (ECI) code in place of the Common Language Equipment Identifier (CLEI) code in the on-board non-volatile RAM (NVRAM).
Background
During the final steps of the manufacturing process the CLEI code is written into serial PROM on the AIC assembly. Some AIC assemblies were programmed with the ECI code instead of the CLEI code.
There is a direct correlation between the CLEI and ECI codes. You can review the table above to ascertain the correct CLEI from the ECI code.
Problem Symptoms
When queried, an AIC board replies by sending the contents of the data location that represents the CLEI code field. An affected board provides the ECI code in place of the expected CLEI code. There are no other symptoms.
Workaround/Solution
Unless the CLEI code information is used within an organization, there are no adverse effects resulting from this condition, and based on your common practices, you may elect to ignore the issue completely.
Manufacturing software procedures were modified on June 4, 2001 to include testing of the entered code to verify it as a valid CLEI code for the given assembly.
When necessary, the AIC can be returned for replacement by contacting the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) at (877) 323-7368.
