Problem Description

When a ring lockout is placed on a span with a signal fail condition present, the ring lockout cannot be effectively cleared using "Clear" from the "Ring" pane of the "Maintenance" window.

Background

This issue was discovered in the field and verified in Cisco's Technical Assistance (TAC) Lab.

Problem Symptoms

Under normal circumstances, a span lockout should not be performed when a span has a signal fail condition present, as this may cause traffic to switch to an unprotected span. If a span lockout is placed on a span with a signal fail condition present, using "Clear" from the "Ring" pane of the "Maintenance" window will not clear the span lockout.

Workaround/Solution

Perform the following steps to clear the span lockout:

1. Clear the span lockout on the affected span.

2. Perform a span lockout on the opposite span of the same node.

3. Clear the span lockout initiated in the previous step (step 2).

4. Traffic will recover and all span lockouts will be cleared.

Example:

Node A has a signal fail condition on slot 12 (west) and a span lockout was issued for the west span.

In order to clear this span lockout, issue a clear for Node A west, then issue a span lockout on the east side of Node A. Next, clear the span lockout on the east side of node A. This will clear all lockouts on these spans.
