Introduction
This document addresses the need to change the IP address of a Cisco Unity server without the loss of voice mail functionality. You can anticipate this whenever infrastructure changes are done, such as moving the Cisco Unity server to a different virtual LAN (VLAN).
Note: This document assumes that you use a static IP address for your Cisco Unity server, as this is recommended.
Prerequisites
Requirements
As with any major change, have a full backup of the Cisco Unity server for disaster recovery.
Components Used
The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:
-
Cisco Unity version 4.0.3 SR1
-
Windows 2000 SP4
-
Internet Explorer Version 6.0.2800.1106

Change the IP Address of the Cisco Unity Server
If Cisco Unity is the Domain Name System (DNS) server for an Active Directory domain, you must reconfigure the network settings for the DNS. This only applies with a voice mail-only system.
Complete these steps in order to change the IP address for Cisco Unity:
-
Select Start > Settings > Network and Dial-Up Connections > Local Area Connection.
-
From the Local Area Connection Status window, click Properties.
-
On the General tab, highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click Properties.
-
From the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window, under the General tab, click the Use the Following IP Address radio button.
-
In the IP Address field, type the new IP address and click OK.
Change the IP Address of the VMO Clients, the SA Media Master and AA Media Master
If any of these programs use the IP address instead of the server name, you must change the client station setting. Open any of these programs on the client station and on the recording/playback bar, and complete these steps in order to change the client station setting:
-
From the Media Master control bar, click the down arrow in order to open the Media Master properties menu.
-
Click Options.
-
In the Server field, enter the server name or new IP address.
-
Click OK for the change to take effect.
-
Repeat this procedure on all workstations used to access the Cisco Unity server.
