Improve Management of Next-Generation Wireless

The Cisco 5500 Series Wireless Controller automates wireless configuration and management functions, giving network managers more visibility and control to cost-effectively manage and secure their wireless networks. As a component of the Cisco Unified Wireless Network, this controller provides real-time communication between Cisco Aironet access points, the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS), and the Cisco Mobility Services Engine. It delivers centralized security policies, wireless intrusion prevention system (IPS) capabilities, award-winning RF management, and quality of service (QoS).

Designed for next-generation wireless networking, the 5500 Series:

• Supports a higher client density than other wireless LAN controllers

Software Licensing Flexibility

Base access point licensing offers the flexibility to add additional access points as business requirements change. Optional WPLUS software supports the OfficeExtend solution for secure, mobile teleworking, as well as Enterprise Wireless Mesh, which allows access points to dynamically establish wireless connections in hard-to-connect locations.

Secure Wireless Teleworking

Cisco OfficeExtend provides secure, rich wireless network services to employees regardless of their location. It extends the corporate network to teleworkers, full- and part-time home office workers, and mobile contractors using a wireless access point and controller. The OfficeExtend access point establishes a secure tunnel to the corporate network so that remote employees can access data, voice, video, and applications just as if they were in the corporate office.
