Where do I connect the modem and the computer on a Linksys VOIP router?
This article is one in a series to assist in the setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco Small Business products (formerly Linksys Business Series).
Q. Where do I connect the modem and the computer on a Linksys VOIP router?A.
Ethernet ports labeled WAN or Internet and LAN or numbered ports (the numbers depend on the number of ports the router has) are located at the back of a Linksys VOIP router. These Ethernet ports are where the broadband modem and computer will be connected. The Broadband modem should be connected to the WAN or Internet port and the computer should be connected to any of the available numbered ports (1, 2 or 3).
Connecting Devices Together
Note: The images may vary depending on the model number of the router.
Connect the Broadband modem to the router's Internet port.
Connect the computer to any available numbered port (1, 2 or 3).
Note: In this example, we'll connect the computer to port number 3.
Disconnect the RJ-11 telephone cable of your telephone from the telephone wall jack then connect that cable to the router's PHONE 1 port.
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Check if the corresponding LEDs on the router are lit.
