Available February 24, 2020: Updates to the CCNP certification and training program

On February 24, 2020, Cisco will release new certification exams. New training will roll out over the next several months. If you have started working toward the current CCNP Service Provider certification, keep going. In the new program, you’ll receive credit for work you’ve already completed.

CCNP Service Provider certification

CCNP Service Provider is a certification for engineers required to deliver carrier-grade infrastructure and new managed services.

Overview

The Cisco Certified Network Professional Service Provider (CCNP Service Provider) certification is for service provider network engineers, systems engineers, and network specialists who are responsible for delivering a scalable carrier-grade infrastructure capable of rapid expansion to support ongoing introduction of new managed services and other customer requirements.

Prerequisites

Valid Cisco CCNA Service Provider, or valid Cisco CCIP, or any Cisco CCIE certification can act as a prerequisite.

Exam information

To earn the Cisco CCNP Service Provider certification, you must pass the following exams:

642-883 SPROUTE

Last date to test: February 23, 2020

This exam tests a candidate's knowledge to configure, verify, and troubleshoot routing protocols using Cisco carrier-grade devices and Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS XE, and Cisco IOS XR software.

642-885 SPADVROUTE

Last date to test: February 23, 2020

This exam tests a candidate's knowledge to configure, verify, and troubleshoot IPv4 and IPv6 advanced BGP configuration, IP multicasting, and IPv6 transition mechanisms in implementing and supporting a service provider network.

642-887 SPCORE

Last date to test: February 23, 2020

This exam tests a candidate's knowledge of the concepts and implementation of MPLS technology and MPLS-TE services. It also validates the understanding of technology principles of basic Quality of Service, and Quality of Service with Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) to implement advanced features and functions.

642-889 SPEDGE

Last date to test: February 23, 2020

This exam tests a candidate's knowledge of service provider VPN solutions through enabling point of presence to provide Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPNs. This exam covers the Cisco IOS, IOS XE and IOS XR operating systems.

Training

The best way to prepare for this certification is to take the Cisco-approved training:

Deploying Cisco Service Provider Network Routing (SPROUTE)

This instructor-led course will prepare students for the SPROUTE exam required for the new CCNP-SP certification. 

Deploying Cisco Service Provider Advanced Routing (SPADVROUTE)

This instructor-led course will prepare students for the SPADVROUTE exam required for the new CCNP-SP certification.

Implementing Cisco Service Provider Next-Generation Core Network Services (SPCORE)

This instructor-led course will prepare students for the SPCORE exam required for the new CCNP-SP certification. 

Implementing Cisco Service Provider Next-Generation Edge Network Services (SPEDGE)

This instructor-led course will prepare students for the SPEDGE exam required for the new CCNP-SP certification.

Recertification

On February 24, 2020, the recertification policy for this exam will be changing.

Cisco Professional-level certifications are valid for three years.

To recertify, pass ONE of the following before the certification expiration date:

  • Pass any current 642-XXX Professional-level or any 300-XXX Professional-level exam, or
  • Pass any current CCIE Written Exam, or
  • Pass the current CCDE Written Exam OR current CCDE Practical Exam, or
  • Pass the Cisco Certified Architect (CCAr) interview AND the CCAr board review to extend lower certifications

Achieving or recertifying any of the certifications above automatically extends your active Associate and Professional level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
