Required exams

The Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification shares a core exam with the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification. The core exam can be taken online. To complete a CCIE certification, you also need to pass an eight-hour, in-person, hands-on lab or practical exam.

To obtain official expert-level certification status, candidates and their employers must verify status online at the CCIE/CCDE/DEVNET verification tool.

Schedule your lab or practical exam

You will need the following to schedule your Expert lab or practical exam:

  • Valid Cisco user account
  • Identification number (ID) you used to register for your written exam
  • Date of your passing the core exam
  • Passing score on the core exam

In the United States and Canada, the ID number is generally your Social Security or Social Insurance number. In other regions, the testing vendor assigns the number.

Lab or practical exam options and cost

The exam fee is $1900 USD for any expert-level lab or practical exam at mobile lab locations using the Cisco kit option.

The exam fee is $1600 USD for any expert-level lab or practical exam at Cisco testing facilities or at mobile lab locations using the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) option.

The exam fees are based on per-exam attempt and do not include travel and lodging expenses. Costs may vary due to exchange rates and local taxes. You are responsible for any fees your financial institution may charge to complete the payment transaction.
