This document describes the process for upgrading a Cisco UCS C- or S-Series server to use Next Gen Intel Xeon processors. Minimum software support and upgrade and downgrade scenarios are described.

Caution

You must follow the procedures in this guide when upgrading an M5 server that has earlier version CPUs to use Second Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. You must upgrade server firmware before you upgrade the processor hardware, as described in the procedures in this document. Failure to follow these procedures results in a non-bootable server.

This document describes the process for successfully upgrading a Cisco UCS C-Series M5 server to use Second Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. Downgrade scenarios are also covered.

At this time, the procedures in this guide support the following servers:

  • Cisco UCS C220 M5

  • Cisco UCS C240 M5

  • Cisco UCS C480 M5

  • Cisco UCS S3260 M5

The minimum software and firmware versions required for the M5 servers to support Second Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors are as follows:
