Before You Install
This chapter describes the procedure for a new installation of Cisco VAMS 2.0.
Note Important: The procedures in this chapter are for a new installation of Cisco VAMS 2.0 and the Cisco Info Center components. Installing the Cisco Info Center components provided with Cisco VAMS where there is an existing Cisco Info Center installation might result in overwriting rules files and existing configuration settings. If you are installing VAMS 2.0 in an existing Cisco Info Center environment, please contact Cisco Advanced Services for assistance
Note You must meet all preinstallation tasks listed in Chapter 2, "Preinstallation" before continuing. Complete these tasks before installing the Cisco VAMS 2.0 software package.

Software on the Installation Media
The Cisco VAMS 2.0 software package contains two DVDs:
• Disk 1—Contains Cisco ANA Extensions for VAMS 2.0.
• Disk 2—Contains the Cisco Info Center software.
Install the Cisco ANA 3.6 Extensions
To install the Cisco ANA Extensions for Cisco VAMS 2.0:
Step 1 Log in to the server as the root user.
Step 2 Insert the first Cisco VAMS 2.0 installation DVD into the DVD drive on your system.
Step 3 Check the system prerequisites such as required disk space. See Chapter 1, "Overview."
Step 4 If an older version of the Cisco VAMS exists, uninstall it. See Chapter 4, "Uninstalling Cisco Video Assurance Management Solution 2.0."
Step 5 Change directory to the root directory on the DVD.

Step 6 Start the installation script.

The installation script prompts you to enter site-specific values for the installation.
Step 7 When prompted to enter login information for Cisco ANA, you must enter an administrative-level user ID and password. If necessary, obtain this information from your administrator.
Step 8 If your login information does not authenticate, retry by entering r, or bypass the Cisco ANA authentication by entering y.
The specified login and password do not authenticate.
Do you wish to continue with the installation? [Y(es)/N(o)/R(etry)]:
Caution
If you enter
y to bypass authentication, you must run the
setCimsCredentials.sh script later. That script is in the
pdf/scripts/ directory. Cisco VAMS 2.0 will not operate correctly if you do not run the
setCimsCredentials.sh script after a failed authentication.
A message similar to this one should appear on your screen:
Installation of <CSCOsgm> was successful.
Modifying configuration files
preparing client configuration..
updating client configuration..
Step 9 After successful installation, continue toChapter 5, "Configuring the Components of the Cisco Video Assurance Management Solution 2.0."
Install Cisco Info Center
The second DVD in the VAMS 2.0 installation media contains the Cisco Info Center software. Install the hardware and software for the Cisco Info Center/Netcool on dedicated servers.
The Cisco Info Center software provided with Cisco VAMS 2.0 includes:
•Netcool Omnibus—Includes the Tivoli Netcool Object Server, probes, gateways, desktop tools, and administration tools.
•TBSM—Tivoli Business Service Manager (TBSM) is the high-level interface used to view network services, including the devices in your Cisco VAMS 2.0 installation. It allows you to launch an event list that includes Cisco VAMS 2.0 alerts, and also allows you to launch CMM to perform additional monitoring functions.
•Webtop—Tivoli Netcool Webtop is the web-based event is a component of the IBM Tivoli Netcool suite that provides user authentication for applications like Netcool/Webtop, Netcool/Impact, Netcool/Precision and Tivoli Business Service Manager (TBSM).
•Impact—Netcool/Impact is a set of runnable server components that work together to provide enhanced event management processing and integration functionality for the Netcool suite of products.
•NcKL—Includes the Tivoli Netcool probes and the Netcool Knowledge Library.
Complete these steps to install the Cisco Info Center software:
Step 1 On the host where you want to install the Cisco Info Center components, install the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC).
Step 2 Complete these steps to create a ncoadmin user:
a. Enter the following command:
# useradd -m -s /bin/bash -d /export/home/ncoadmin ncoadmin
You are prompted for the NCO admin password:
b. Enter the NCO admin password
c. When prompted to verify the password, verify it:
# Re-enter new Password:ncoadmin
Step 3 Add the following lines to the .bashrc file for root and for the ncoadmin user:
export PATH="${PATH}:/usr/local/bin"
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}:/usr/local/lib:/lib"
export NCHOME="/opt/vams"
export NC_RULES_HOME="$NCHOME/omnibus/probes/solaris2/rules"
export NETCOOL_LICENSE_FILE="27000@localhost"
Step 4 On the host where you want to install the Cisco Info Center components, insert Disk 2 of the Cisco VAMS 2.0 distribution.
Step 5 Navigate to the /cdrom/cdrom0 directory:
This directory includes the vams-2.0_build-0.6.tar file, which contains the Cisco Info Center components.
Step 6 Copy the vams-2.0_build-0.6.tar file to a temporary directory:
# cp vams-2.0_build-0.6.tar /tmp/
Step 7 As the ncoadmin user, untar the file:
tar -xvf vams-2.0_build-0.6.tar
The extraction process creates a /VAMS-2.0-image directory and extracts the Cisco Info Center distribution files to the directory. Messages similar to the following appear:

Step 8 Navigate to the VAMS-2.0-image directory and list the directory files:

Messages display indicating the progress of the installation.

The installation script customizes the products and displays informational messages
Installation of the Cisco Info Center components is now complete.
Distributing the Cisco Info Center Components
The installation scenario described in the previous section installs all of the Cisco Info Center components on one host. It is also possible to distribute the components over one or more hosts.

Starting Cisco Info Center
Starting the Object Server
To start the Object Server, issue the following command:
Starting the MTTrapd Probe
To start the MTTrapd probe, complete these steps:
Step 1 Log in to the Cisco Info Center host as root.
Step 2 To enable the license for the MTTrapd probe, add the following lines to the .bash_profile file for the root user:
export NC_RULES_HOME="$NCHOME/omnibus/probes/solaris2/rules"
export NETCOOL_LICENSE_FILE="27000@localhost"
Step 3 Enter the following command to start the MTTrapd probe:
# $NCHOME/omnibus/probes/nco_p_mttrapd_ems -rulesfile
# $NCHOME/omnibus/probes/solaris2/rules/snmptrap.rules &
Starting the Netcool GUI
Starting Netcool Webtop
To check the status of Netcool, log in to the GUI at http://<hostname>:8080
where hostname is the name of the host where you installed Cisco Info Center Webtop.
Starting TBSM
For information on starting the Tivoli Business Services Manager (TBSM) application, see the "Starting and Stopping TBSM Components or Services" section in the Tivoli Business Service Manager 4.1 Administrator's Guide. This section describes tbsm_suite.sh script that you can use to start and stop TBSM components. The TBSM 4.1 Administrator's Guide is locatable at the following location:

Logging in to TBSM
To log in to TBSM, go to the URL for the TBSM application:
http://ip_address.:8080/
where ip_address is the IP address of the TBSM server.
Upgrading to Cisco VAMS 2.0
If you need to upgrade an existing Cisco VAMS 1.5 installation to Cisco VAMS 2.0, consult with Cisco Advanced Services for assistance in the upgrade.
