This document discusses Cisco Information Server (CIS) upgrades.
Should I reinstall CIS or use a patch when I upgrade SP levels?
In CIS Version 7.0 and later, Cisco offers full new CIS installers along with the release of each new Service Pack (SP) patch. For existing users, you can apply a new SP to your existing v7.0.x install in order to upgrade to a new SP level, or apply any new hotfix (which is released approximately every 4 weeks) in between the less frequent SP releases.
If you choose to install CIS anew, it automatically arrives at the SP level indicated. This is generally chosen for new deployments and is more convenient than installation of a base release and application of the SP afterwards.
The two different installation scenarios are:
Install base v7.0.0 + SP1, followed by hotfix v7.0.1.00.15, and then with SP2.
Install with the v7.0.2 binaries.
Both of these scenarios result in identical installs at the same fix level.
