Why Cisco for Education?

Why Cisco for Education?

Education is Cisco’s past, present, and future.

A shifting landscape for job markets and skills. New models of teaching and learning. Barriers to access, a human-centered academic experience, and student engagement. Resource constraints and mounting security threats.

Staying on top of the evolving education environment takes a lot of work. But educators are a passionate group motivated by a deeper mission to equip all students to reach their full potential. To empower education in today’s world, you need a solid technology foundation that helps you deliver on this mission and overcome the obstacles that stand in your way.

That’s where Cisco comes in.

Ever since two professors started Cisco in 1984, education has been in our blood. Beyond the tens of thousands of schools, colleges, and universities we have worked with over that time, Cisco and our employees seek to make an impact on education in our own communities. In 2018, our employees logged 424,000 hours volunteering and contributed $21.4 million in donations and corporate matches to schools and nonprofit organizations.

For over 20 years, Cisco Networking Academy® has changed the lives of 9.2 million students in 180 countries by providing education, technical training, and career mentorship. We partner closely with educational institutions and instructors to develop and deliver a curriculum that gives students the digital, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills they need to get a job, earn a promotion, or start a business of their own.

We’ve built an ever-expanding community of students, educators, employers, NGOs, Cisco employees, and customers working to fuel development through access to skills training for the workforce of the future.

We award grants and collaborate with universities around the world on research. We partner with education-focused nonprofits on programs that extend access to education and boost student engagement, particularly in STEM studies and among underserved communities. And we spark creativity through our own innovation programs, including the Cisco® Global Problem Solver Challenge.

Cisco DevNet also facilitates an open platform for innovation, working with our education community to co-create solutions built on our open APIs.

The pace of change in education is accelerating — and we think your network should, too.

Everything you do, from teaching classes to running a campus (and more), depends on a strong network. Your students, your teachers — and ultimately your core mission — rely on it.

That’s why we offer Cisco Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA) for Education. It’s networking made simple, smart, and automated. It means faster, flexible deployment (28% more efficient IT staff, according to IDC¹), so you can innovate at the speed of change. It also means lower complexity and costs, so you can get more value. And it means security, everywhere.

Security is critical to protecting your students. So we build it into everything we make.

Schools and universities are increasingly the targets of cyber threats. With sensitive personal information to safeguard, intellectual property to protect, and campuses to secure, the stakes are high.

That’s why you need a strong, simple, automated defense that surrounds your network with security — on your premises, in the cloud, and on all your software and devices. Cisco’s portfolio delivers ironclad cybersecurity that helps increase visibility and stop threats in their tracks — fast.

Our comprehensive portfolio covers all your bases.

Connecting the campus. Streamlining administration. Promoting active learning. Facilitating safety and security. Fueling innovative research. Education is evolving, and schools, colleges, and universities everywhere are taking action to equip their students for success in a changing world.
