Differences Between a Warranty and a Service Contract

The generic definition of warranty is:

“A promise about a product made by either the product manufacturer or the seller. A warranty typically states that if the product malfunctions within a certain amount of time after purchase, the manufacturer is required to provide the customer with a replacement or a refund.”

The definition of a Cisco warranty is:

“A Cisco warranty is the company’s assurance of the integrity of its hardware. It is the Cisco promise to you that the company will remedy the defective parts associated with your hardware during a designated (finite) amount of time through repair, replacement or refund at Cisco's sole discretion. When Cisco hardware is sold, a Cisco warranty provides a guarantee that the specific Cisco hardware will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use.”
