Problem Description
WS-X6196-21AF or WS-X6148X2-RJ-45 modules may fail to boot up when running IOS versions 12.2(18)SXF, 12.2(18)SXF1, or 12.2(18)SXF2.
Background
This problem is due to a timing problem in the module initialization routine of IOS that may prevent WS-X6196-RJ-21 and WS-X6148X2-RJ-45 cards from coming online. This issue only exists in IOS. CatOS is not affected by this software defect.
Problem Symptoms
Customers running IOS versions 12.2(18)SXF, 12.2(18)SXF1, or 12.2(18)SXF2, may experience the following error messages while trying to boot up WS-X6196-21AF or WS-X6148X2-RJ-45 line cards:
Error Messages:
%ONLINE-SP-6-TIMER: Module N, Proc. 0. Failed to bring online because of timer event %C6KPWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot N set off (Module Failed SCP dnld)
Workaround/Solution
Customers who are experiencing this issue must upgrade to IOS 12.2(18)SXF3 or later software version.
