Problem Description
Online diagnostic system error messages are mistakenly generated upon boot-up of certain versions of the WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF linecards. These system error messages do not impact the functionality of the linecards, but affected linecards will fail system diagnostic tests.
Background
A resistor change was incorporated into hardware versions 1.2 and 1.3 of the Voice Daughter Boards installed on WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF linecards, which causes these linecards to mistakenly generate online diagnostic system error messages upon boot-up. Additionally, affected linecards will fail Voice Daughter Board diagnostic tests even though these linecards are fully functional.
Problem Symptoms

Workaround/Solution
Hardware version 1.4 of Voice Daughter Boards installed on WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF linecards contain new resistors which are not affected by this problem. Additionally, hardware versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF Voice Daughter Boards are not affected by this problem.
Any linecard that contains a Voice Daughter Board with a hardware version of 1.2 or 1.3, and a serial number which falls within the specified range, is eligible for replacement. Initially there was an Upgrade Program to replace hardware, which was expired June 2005. If you have an affected hardware board, please use the standard RMA process to obtain an unaffected one.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
In order to determine if a particular WS-X6148-21AF or WS-X6148-45AF linecard is affected by this problem, first verify that the linecard's Voice Daughter Board has a hardware version of either 1.2 or 1.3, then verify that the Daughter Board's serial number falls within the serial number range specified in the Serial Numbers section at the top of this Field Notice. Any linecard that contains a Voice Daughter Board with a hardware version of either 1.2 or 1.3, and a serial number which falls within the specified range, is eligible for replacement.
Below are both the CatOS and IOS commands required to identify the hardware version and serial number of a WS-X6148-21AF or WS-X6148-45AF Voice Daughter Board.
