Effective February 1, 2011, customers with Cisco® Catalyst® 4500 Series Switches will no longer be required to purchase an In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) feature license in order to deploy the ISSU feature. The ISSU feature license will be included with IP Base and Enterprise Services software images. This change is applicable to all supported supervisor engines and software releases starting with Release 12.2(31) SGA for classic Cisco IOS® Software and Release IOS-XE 03.01.00.SG for Cisco IOS-XE Software. (See Table 1.)

A. No. ISSU license removal only applies to products purchased February 1, 2011 and beyond.

A. Yes. You can activate the ISSU feature now as long as you are using IP Base or Enterprise Service image.
Q. I have LAN Base image running on one of my Cisco Catalyst 4500 switches. Can I activate the ISSU feature?
A. No. LAN Base image does not support ISSU or NSF/SSO (Nonstop Forwarding with Stateful Switchover) you need to upgrade software image to IP Base or Enterprise Services to enable ISSU or NSF/SSO. Tables 2 and 3 give the product numbers required for upgrading from LAN Base image.
