Mobile Content Filtering

Introduction

Boost Customer Satisfaction

The Cisco Mobile Content Filtering solution gives mobile operators a way to offer subscribers choice and control over the content they access, based on preferences and policies.

Mobile Content Filtering for Subscriber Protection
Mobile content filtering is now essential, as not all content is appropriate for all subscribers. Mobile operators are using content filtering to give subscribers choice and control of content, while complying with potential constraints, such as:

  • Legal requirements
  • Religious or cultural preferences
  • Need for parental controls
  • Corporate or organizational policies
  • Social responsibility

The Cisco Mobile Content Filtering solution offers comprehensive content filtering and control, based on the features of the Cisco Content Services Gateway (CSG2). The CSG2 is available separately or as part of the Cisco Enhanced Cisco Gateway GPRS Support Node (eGGSN).

This content filtering solution provides value-added services through intelligence and control at the mobile Internet edge and is independent of the network or radio access technologies.

Examples of services that operators have launched with the Cisco Mobile Filtering solution include:

A Fully Integrated Solution
The Cisco Mobile Content Filtering solution interoperates with existing radio access network (RAN), authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA), content billing, and compression solutions.

The two main elements of this solution include:

  • The Cisco Content Services Gateway – Second Generation (CSG2) allows mobile operators to control subscriber access to varied content types, including specific HTTP and wireless access protocol (WAP) pages and multimedia content.
  • The Filtering Application and Database is based on products by leaders in content filtering and control software who have partnered with Cisco such as AdaptiveMobile. This best-in-class solution provides a comprehensive list of URLs and IP addresses that are each associated with predefined or user-defined categories, so mobile operators can create policies for category filtering

The Cisco Mobile Content Filtering solution is part of the CSG2 application, available on the industry-leading Service and Application Module for IP (SAMI) deployed in the Cisco 7600 Series Router. The CSG2 is deployed as a standalone application or as part of the Cisco eGGSN, and can support thousands of subscribers per module.
