Strengthening Our Color Foundation: A Cross-Team Collaboration

We’re excited to share upcoming improvements to our color palette—part of a coordinated effort between the Brand team, the Muse and Atmosphere design systems, and our .com and AEM platform teams. These updates ensure our digital experiences stay aligned with our evolving brand and provide a strong foundation for accessibility, consistency, and theming at scale.

Phase 1: Color Patch Launching May 23

Beginning May 23, we’ll roll out the first phase of updates to .com, focusing on high-impact UI elements:

  • Primary text
  • Buttons and CTAs
  • Borders and key surface colors

This update will be delivered via a hex-level patch in AEM, seamlessly updating core color values across the site. These changes improve readability, contrast, and brand alignment—enhancing the overall user experience as we evolve our approach to colors.

Phase 2: Enabling Themed Patterns

Following the patch, we’ll begin updating our component patterns to support multiple visual themes:

  • Light
  • Gray
  • Dark

This phase ensures that patterns adapt gracefully to different backgrounds and contexts, allowing more flexibility in page design. Technical implementation will begin in AEM shortly after the initial patch.

Phase 3: Full Page-Level Theming

Our final phase will enable full-page theming, extending beyond individual components to cover:

  • Page-level UI such as our Navigation, Footer, content bed, and page background
  • Integrated tools like search and chat

This will be a larger, cross-functional effort requiring input from multiple product and platform teams. It’s the foundation for future experiences that adapt to user preferences, brand campaigns, and accessibility needs.

Why This Matters

This initiative reflects a broader commitment to collaboration, quality, and scalability across teams. By aligning our design systems with the refreshed brand palette, we ensure a consistent and accessible experience for all users, while creating the flexibility needed for future innovation.

We’re grateful to everyone involved—from Brand and Atmosphere to engineering and platform leads—for helping bring this vision to life.

Stay tuned for updates as we move through each phase—and as always, thank you for helping shape the future of our digital design system.
