Document Organization

This publication is designed for people who have some experience installing networking equipment such as routers, hubs, servers, and switches. The person installing the server should be familiar with electronic circuitry and wiring practices and have experience as an electronic or electromechanical technician.

This document is organized into the following chapters:

Chapter 1, "Overview," describes the Cisco AS5300 universal access server.

Chapter 2, "Preparing to Install," describes the tasks you must perform before you begin to install the chassis.

Chapter 3, "Installing the Cisco AS5300," describes how to install the Cisco AS5300 chassis.

Appendix A, "Troubleshooting," describes how to troubleshoot the chassis by referring to the LEDs on the chassis and cards and using the Bantam jacks.

Appendix B, "Replacing Memory Chips," describes how to replace memory chips in the chassis field-replaceable units.

Appendix C, "Replacing the Power Supply," describes how to replace the power supply for the chassis field-replaceable units.

Appendix D, "Cabling Specifications," describes cabling and pinout information for the chassis.

Document Conventions

This publication uses the following conventions:

The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control. For example, the key combination ^z means hold down the Control key while you press the z key.

Command descriptions use these conventions:

Examples that contain system prompts denote interactive sessions, indicating the commands that you should enter at the prompt. The system prompt indicates the current level of the EXEC command interpreter. For example, the prompt router> indicates that you should be at the user level, and the prompt router# indicates that you should be at the privileged level. Access to the privileged level usually requires a password.

Commands and keywords are in boldface font.

Arguments for which you supply values are in italic font.

Elements in square brackets ([ ]) are optional.

Alternative but required keywords are grouped in braces ({ }) and separated by vertical bars (|).

Examples use these conventions:

Terminal sessions and sample console screen displays are in screen font.

Information you enter is in boldface screen font.

Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets (< >).

Default responses to system prompts are in square brackets ([ ]).

Exclamation points (!) at the beginning of a line indicate a comment line.
