The European Commission has established the WIFI4EU programme to fund the cost of wireless infrastructure to establish free Wi-Fi hotspots in public spaces.
Contact us to learn more about the programme, how to apply for funding, and for guidance on choosing the best solution for you.
The WiFi4EU programme will be open to public sector bodies, including local authorities, public libraries and hospitals, in the EU and Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein.
The total programme budget is €120M, which will be released between 2017 and 2020. The first round of funding will be limited to local authorities. It is expected to be issued in the first half of 2018, with a maximum allocation of €20M.
Each successful applicant will receive between €15,000 and €25,000.
Funding will be available on a first come, first serve basis, with a maximum allocation for each country, to ensure fair distribution.
The application process is online. Once approved, successful applicants will receive a voucher to cover the cost of hardware infrastructure and installation. This voucher will then be passed on to the chosen supplier, who is reimbursed by the EU.
Applicants will be required to cover the cost of connectivity (internet access) and support for at least three years.
Cisco has created Wi-Fi infrastructure bundles that meet Wifi4EU requirements. These include options for indoor, outdoor and mixed deployments, as well as cloud-based and on-premises.
Year after year, Cisco has been named a leader in the Gartner Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure Magic Quadrant.
