Configuration Conversion Tool

SD-WAN 20.12.x

Initial release of tool to convert templates and policies to configuration groups, policy groups, and topology groups.

Information about the Configuration Conversion Tool

The Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Configuration Conversion Tool converts templates and policies to configuration groups, policy groups, and topology groups. The tool collects the templates and policies from a Cisco SD-WAN Manager instance, converts them to configuration groups, and creates the newly converted constructs in Cisco SD-WAN Manager.

Configuration groups provide device-agnostic configuration and reusable components.

Conversion details

The Configuration Conversion Tool:

  • Converts device templates to configuration groups

  • Converts policies into policy groups and topology groups where applicable

  • Transfers global device values and variable names

  • Ignores edge devices and has no impact on your network

Configuration Conversion Tool restrictions

  • The Conversion Tool is considered to be in beta.

  • The Conversion Tol does not convert features that do not have a configuration group or policy group equivalent.

Configuration Conversion Tool prerequisites

  • Ensure that SD-WAN Manager is running 20.12.x or later.

  • Your network's firewall must accept incoming traffic from 74.207.103.254.

Configuration Conversion Tool workflow

Procedure

Step 1

Log in to the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Portal using your Cisco login credentials.

Step 2

Launch the Configuration Conversion Tool. If you do not have full login access, click the link on the displayed error page to launch.

Step 3

Provide your SD-WAN Manager IP or URL along with user credentials. Port and subdomain fields are optional.

Step 4

Click Collect to retrieve all legacy constructs (device templates, feature templates, policies, and their associated constructs) from SD-WAN Manager.

When the collection is complete, you can download a JSON file containing all the configurations. You can use this file if you repeat this process later instead of collecting items from the SD-WAN Manager again.

Step 5

Click Templates and select some or all device templates to convert to their new equivalents.

The conversion tool also converts the associated feature templates.

Step 6

If you need to convert policies, click Policies and select the option to enable conversion of policies. This option converts all defined policies that are referenced by device templates.

Step 7

Click Convert to convert the selected items.

The Converted Configurations page displays all the newly converted constructs.

Step 8

After you have verified the list of configurations, click Upload to add these configurations to SD-WAN Manager.

The configurations are created in SD-WAN Manager. There is an option to cancel an upload in progress. After the upload is complete, you see a summary of the uploaded configurations.

Rollback is also available at this step. Clicking Rollback removes all the constructs added to SD-WAN Manager during this session.

Your new constructs are now ready to use.

What to do next

Execute the steps in the Existing Deployments section of the Quick Start Guide - Catalyst SD-WAN Simplified Configuration and Policies to migrate your devices to the newly-converted configuration groups.
