Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0
Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0
Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0 marks a significant evolution from its cloud-managed predecessor. While maintaining the same end-to-end data management functionality using defined pipelines, Release 2.0 eliminates dependencies on the IOT Operations Dashboard EI Cloud application.
Cisco Edge Intelligence presents a single, continuous workflow for local pipeline configuration. Pipeline configuration involves identifying data sources and destinations, and defining the data rules and logic that determine how the collected data is processed, transformed, and delivered.
Cisco Edge Intelligence continues to use built-in industry-standard connectors such as OPC Unified Architecture (OPC-UA), Modbus (TCP/IP and Serial), and MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) that allow data to be extracted from diverse sources.
Cisco Edge Intelligence also supports NTCIP 1202, NTCIP 1203, NTCIP 1204 and RSU connectors, that are critical in the road transport sector.
This section provides a brief description of the behavior changes introduced in Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0.2.
Description |
Behavior changes |
Multi-version upgrade support |
The challenges with multi-version upgrades for users upgrading from early Cisco Edge Intelligence 1.x.x releases to Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0.x are resolved. |
Password encoding |
Encoded credentials in pipeline templates were double-encoded when downloaded from one agent and either:
● deployed through another agent
● reuploaded for deployment in the same agent
This issue is now resolved. |

Feature Set |
Unified workflow for pipeline creation
|
Cisco Edge Intelligence presents a single, continuous workflow for local pipeline configuration. Pipeline configuration involves identifying data sources and destinations, and defining the data rules and logic that determine how the collected data is processed, transformed, and delivered. You can add up to 20 sources in a pipeline. |
Feature Set |
|
You can save a pipeline configuration as a template while drafting or at completion in the Cisco Edge Intelligence GUI. The templates you create are displayed in your Cisco Edge Intelligence GUI. To reuse a template in a different Cisco Edge Intelligence agent, you must download the template from your agent, modify it as required, and upload it into the target agent. Automate pipeline deployments using templates You can export a configured template as a template payload, and use it directly as an API payload for programmatic deployment. You can deploy pipelines across multiple environments using this approach. |
Feature Set |
|
The Cisco Edge Intelligence GUI includes an in-app code editor in the Data Logic step. The editor validates your inputs and helps you troubleshoot your configuration script at the drafting stage.
|
Feature Set |
|
Reset the Cisco Edge Intelligence agent to delete all the pipelines in it.

Feature Set |
|
The following APIs are available:
●
Authentication: User authentication and token management
◦ Obtain or refresh JWT token ◦ Change user password
●
Policy management: Data policy management
◦ Retrieve pipeline configuration ◦ Undeploy data pipeline ◦ Get all pipeline configurations ◦ Deploy new pipeline ◦ Get status of all pipelines ◦ Get status of specific pipeline
● Agent management: EI Agent management
◦ Retrieve EI Agent status ◦ Reset the EI Agent
● Event management: Retrieve event information
|
Known issues
1. Pipelines access across Cisco Edge Intelligence releases
Any pipelines configured and deployed using Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 1.0 are visible and accessible through the Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0 GUI. However, the converse is not supported. You cannot view or access Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 2.0 pipelines using the preceding release.
2. Unsupported connectors
The following connectors that were available in Cisco Edge Intelligence Release 1.0 are not supported in release 2.0:
● Southbound connectors: EtherNet/IP (Ethernet Industrial Protocol or EIP) and Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) are not supported.
● Northbound connectors: Cumulocity is not supported.
3. Bulk deployment of pipelines is not supported through the GUI. You can use APIs or command line solutions for bulk deployment.
4. You cannot save or verify asset configurations while creating a pipeline.
5. You cannot enable or disable verbose logging for connectors.
6. You cannot download log files.
Supported hardware
The Cisco Edge Intelligence agent is deployed through local managers on supported routers and uses the on-premise network resources. The agent can also be deployed through the Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager.
The Cisco Edge Intelligence agent runs on Cisco network devices as a Cisco IOx app on the following devices:
● Cisco 829 Industrial Integrated Services Routers (Cisco IR829)
● Cisco Catalyst IR1101 Rugged Series Router
● Cisco Catalyst IR1800 Rugged Series Routers
● Cisco Catalyst IE3400 Rugged Series
● Cisco IC3000 Industrial Compute Gateway
