Problem Description
The listed SPAs may fail to load on the GSR platform, showing the SPA slot as empty.
The problem is specific to SPAs running 12.0.32SY on the GSR 12000 platform.
Background
In early releases of 12.0.32SY, the SPI4.2 status clocking is not correctly set on the GSR 12000-SIP cards. This clock is used by the resident SPAs, and can give the appearance of a SPA hardware failure, as outlined in bugs CSCsh31959 and CSCsh68950.
The SPAs covered by this Field Notice were introduced in the 12.0.32SY train, and are used on the GSR 12000-SIP cards. The fix is available in 12.0.32SY3 and above.
Although these SPAs are used on other platforms, the bug is specific to the GSR 12000 platform, and how the 12000-SIP clocking is being set for the SPA.
Problem Symptoms
The SPA may not load, and the SIP slot shows as empty within show commands.
Also the Console log could show (example for SPA-1XOC48POS/RPR) :
00:26:20: %SPA_OIR-3-SPA_POWERED_OFF: subslot 3/1: SPA 1xOC48 POS/RPR HHSPA powered off after 5 failures within 600 seconds
Workaround/Solution
It is recommended that any customer running these SPAs on 12.0.32SY should upgrade to the software fix release of 12.0.32SY3 or above.
