IGX8400 |
Running with R.x.R or R.x.S bootcode on NPM. |
Problem Description
After a rebuild or as software fallback, the IGX8400 remains in boot state when there is no device, such as a modem or terminal server attached to the Control port.
Background
Rebuilds may result when the IGX8400 runtime software experiences an abort and there is no available standby Network Processor Module (NPM) .
Runrev is a user initiated command used to switch the IGX8400 NPMs to a later version of software.
The IGX8400 hangs because of an anomaly in the boot code handling of the Data Terminal Ready (DTR) lead on the Control port.
Problem Symptoms
Network users will experience continued loss of connectivity to remote resources.
Network administrators will observe continued major alarms and unreachable node log events as well as inability to virtual terminal (VT) to the affected switch. Visually, all Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) on the IGX will be red except for the "Active" LED on the active NPM which will be green.
The definite proof of this anomaly is that the node starts to boot up when a terminal, modem or terminal server which has DTR asserted is physically attached to the Control port. The node will resume operation normally without further intervention.
Workaround/Solution
Workaround 1:
Use the cnfterm command to disable DTR monitoring on the Control port.

Workaround 2:
Attach a device to the Control Port that has the DTR lead asserted.
Solution:
A release of boot code for the NPM will resolve this problem. Return materials authorizations (RMAs) do not resolve this problem. NPM Bootcode Revision "T" is targeted to fix this issue.
