Problem Description
After you delete an Interface Controller Card (ICC) span from a database, the deleted span will continue to transmit on the timeslots assigned to it. This problem also occurs when you add another ICC span to the database. The Generic Call Control (GCC) software assigns the recently configured span the same timeslots used by the deleted ICC I/O span. This causes both ICC spans to transmit on the same timeslots.
Background
The VCO GCC software dynamically assigns timeslots as physical cards are added to the database. Normally, these timeslots are removed when the physical cards are removed from the database. When the error condition is encountered, the timeslots associated with the ICC are not being reassigned by the GCC software.
Problem Symptoms
No voice path, anomalous noise, or tones are present on calls serviced by timeslots impacted by the transmission of both ICC spans.
Workaround/Solution
Taking the entire ICC out of service after the span has been deleted from the database will prevent this problem from occurring. You can accomplish this by using the System Administration's Card Maintenance menu.
-
Change the status of the entire ICC (Rack-Level-Slot) to Out Of Service.
This changes the status of all spans associated with the ICC to Out Of Service.
-
Change the ICC card status (Rack-Level-Slot) to Active.
This reboots the ICC and reassigns time slots to the spans.
As an alternate workaround, you could remove the ICC from the VCO backplane and then insert it again. This again boots up the ICC and reassigns timeslots to all spans. Refer to the VCO/4K Card Technical Descriptions for removal and replacement procedures.
A software resolution to this problem will be integrated in version 5.1.1.
