The air travel industry uses unique operating environments (TPF or a Unisys operating system) that are optimized for the high transaction volumes typical in a reservation system. In addition, remote terminals connect to the central site systems via controllers running legacy serial protocols - P1024B and P1024C. In the past, these devices required a separate network to connect back to a central site. With its Airline Product Set (ALPS), Cisco provides a solution that enables consolidation of these networks onto an IP network.
