End of Sale announcement for Multilayer Switch Module (MSM) for Catalyst 6000 family SwitchesOverview
The Workgroup Business Unit announces the end of sale (EOS) of the following Catalyst 6000 family module listed in Table 1.

Product SubstitutionThe MSM module is effectively replaced by Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC) that delivers much higher performance multilayer forwarding at 15 Mpps. MSFC is a daughter card that can be ordered on the Catalyst Supervisor 1A. It combines the benefits of Cisco IOS with the performance of Catalyst 6000 to support a broad array of features including:
•Much higher IP/IPX/IP Multicast performance at 15 Mpps
•A wide set of protocols including IP, IPX, AppleTalk, DECnet, VINES, XNS,OSI, CLNS
•InterDomain Routing Support---BGP4, ISIS
•Multimedia services---Protocol-Independent Multicast (PIM) (both sparse and dense mode), and Cisco Group Management Protocol (CGMP) and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping
•Class of Service (CoS) enablers---Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), and Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ)
TABLE 2 outlines the MSFC module. All new orders for Layer 3 functionality should use the part number listed in Table 2.
