Cisco Catalyst 6503 Chassis
Cisco Systems announces the availability of the Cisco Catalyst 6503 chassisthe latest addition to the award-winning Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series of modular switches. A three-slot chassis in a compact size, the Cisco Catalyst 6503 is ideally suited for multi-Gbps secure data centers, remote access, e-commerce, and converged network solutions.
With the addition of the Cisco Catalyst 6503, the Cisco Catalyst 6500 chassis family is now available in 3, 6, 9, and 13 slots, offering the most scalable switching platform with an unparalleled range of interfaces and port densities, from 10/100 Mbps to 10 Gbps and DS0 to OC-48, for a comprehensive, end-to-end, converged solution.
Using the same supervisor modules and line cards from the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series, the Cisco Catalyst 6503 offers maximum investment protection and broadens the deployment options of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 in the wiring closet, distribution, core, data center, and WAN edge.
48-Port 10/100 Ethernet Modules
To expand the range of the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series wiring closet deployments, Cisco is also announcing two new 48-port 10/100 Ethernet modules (RJ-45 and RJ-21 interfaces) with IEEE 802.3af inline power upgrade capabilities.
Offering the standard Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series rich feature set and high availability, these modules are optimized to provide a scalable future-proof and cost-effective wiring closet solution on the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series.
Available in RJ-45 or RJ-21 interfaces, these modules provide standard 48-port 10/100 Ethernet connectivity and are field upgradable to Cisco Inline Power by the addition of the Cisco Inline Power Voice Feature Card for the deployment of a converged multiservice voice, video, and data network.
These latest-generation 10/100 modules can be upgraded in the field to support the emerging IEEE 802.3af inline power standard in the future, offering maximum investment protection to the customer.

Pricing Updates
Cisco is pleased to announce new pricing, effective September 28, 2002, for several key components in the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series: Supervisor Engine II modules (WS-X6K-S2-PFC2, WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2, WS-XG6-S2U-MSFC2), 10/100 inline power modules (WS-X6148-RJ45V, WS-X6148-RJ21V, WS-F6K-VPLUR=), and the fabric-enabled Gigabit Ethernet module (WS-X6516-GBIC). All enjoy reduced pricing, and offer even more value to customers in deploying a secure, converged services network from the wiring closet to the core.
Based on the latest advanced switching technology, the Supervisor Engine II modules deliver rich intelligent network services, high availability, and scalable performance for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches. This new pricing facilitates the end-to-end deployment of the Supervisor Engine II modules throughout the network, from the wiring closet to the core, by providing operational consistency across the network while delivering a more scalable platform for the future.
With the decrease in the Supervisor Engine II module pricing, the special discount for redundant supervisors in a configured chassis is no longer available for these supervisors (product numbers WS-X6K-S2-PFC2/2, WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2/2, and WS-X6K-S2U-MSFC2/2). With this new Supervisor Engine II pricing, the total costs for both a single Supervisor Engine II solution and a redundant Supervisor Engine II solution have been reduced.
The 48-port 10/100 inline power modules (RJ-45 and RJ-21 interfaces) come already equipped with the voice power feature card to provide Cisco Inline Power capability to power up IP phones for the deployment of converged multiservice voice, video, and data networks.
The 16-port fabric-enabled Gigabit Ethernet module, with support for the short-reach, long-reach, and extended reach GBICs, is ideally suited for gigabit aggregation in the distribution and core layers of the network.
