Cisco Software Release 6.3(1)
on the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series

Software Release 6.3.1 Hardware Features

Hardware Features Hardware/Software Dependencies
None

Other Hardware Supported

The system software version 6.3.1 supports all cards already previously supported by the Cisco Catalyst operating system on the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Supervisor Engines.

Software Features

Software Feature Description 6K Feature 5K Feature
Single Router Mode (SRM) Redundancy

SRM Redundancy is an alternative to having both Multilayer Switch Feature Cards in a chassis active at the same time. SRM requires MSFC IOS Release 12.1(8a)E2.

X

EtherChannel Enhancements

Prior to release 6.3.1, if you have a 2-port channel and one link is removed, the remaining link is removed and added back to Spanning Tree. This enhancement allows the remaining link to remain in the EtherChannel. Otherwise, there could be a connection loss on the channel until the link is forwarding again.

X

Private VLANs on SC0

This feature allows the SC0 management interface to be assigned to a Private VLAN.

X

NetFlow version 8

Support for NetFlow version 8.

X

Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP) version 2.0 enhancements

This feature adds several enhancements to CDPv2, including the addition of TLVs such as sysName, sysObjectID, management address and physical location. It also supports a new device ID format called the mac-address format. It also displays changes corresponding to some parameters such as device ID for the show cdp command.

X

X

Increase Quality of Service (QoS) Access Control Lists (ACLs)

The maximum number of QoS ACLs that can be stored in NVRAM has been increased from 250 to 500.

X

Ethernet Link Debounce timer feature

The debounce timer is the time a module's firmware waits before notifying the Supervisor Engine of a link change at the physical layer when a link goes down. This feature allows a user to enable an Ethernet Link Debounce timer on a per-port basis on Ethernet blades.

X

Autostate Enhancements

Ensures that a VLAN interface will not transition to up state until at least one port in the VLAN is forwarding traffic.

X

X

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) version 3 Enhancements

Implements RFC 2571 through RFC 2576.

X

X

Display SNMPv3 Counters

Enables the user to use the command line interface to display SNMPv3 counters for various MIBs.

X

X

Support for various MIBs
  • CISCO-AAA-CLIENT-MIB (C5K, C6K)

  • CISCO-CATOS-ACL-QOS-MIB (C6K)

  • CISCO-CAT6K-CROSSBAR-MIB (C6K)

Orderable Software Images

The following table lists the software versions and applicable ordering information for the Cisco Catalyst 6000 and Catalyst 5000 Series Supervisor Engine software.

Note Caution: Always back up the switch configuration file before upgrading or downgrading the switch software to avoid losing all or part of the configuration stored in NVRAM. When downgrading switch software, you will lose your configuration. Use the write network command or the copy config tftp command to back up your configuration to a Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server. Use the copy config flash command to back up the configuration to a Flash device.
