The Cisco Catalyst® 6000 Family—consisting of the 6000 and 6500 Series—delivers high-performance, multilayer switching solutions for enterprise and service provider networks. The Cisco Catalyst 6000 Series consists of the 6006 and 6009 chassis. The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series consists of the 6506, 6509, 6509-NEB, and 6513 chassis.
The Catalyst 6500 Series is the premier Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) wiring closet solution, with advanced features such as high availability, scalability, security, and advanced quality of service (QoS) for converged networks. To that end, new pricing for some key components of the platform, including the Catalyst 6506 chassis and the 48-port 10/100 inline power modules was announced recently to facilitate the move to a converged network for customers. With the new pricing of the 6506 chassis, Cisco is announcing end of sales for the Catalyst 6000 Series chassis: the 6006 and 6009 chassis. The Catalyst 6506 and 6509 chassis are replacement products for customers requiring a 6-slot or 9-slot chassis, respectively, and provide greater scalability for the future. The Catalyst 6513, the new 13-slot chassis introduced in June 2001, provides further scalability for the platform.

The newly introduced WS-X6348-RJ21V module is the replacement product and offers the same functions, as well as inline power as a standard feature, at no extra cost.
